Melksham Entertainment Group was formally started on the 20th June 2002, the group came about after complaints that Melksham had put nothing on in the way of entertainment for the Queens Jubilee. In comparison other towns had fetes, dances and street fairs, it was felt that the people of Melksham were being let down, or better still letting themselves down. On the 20th of June a group of people met in the town hall to discuss the possibility of putting on events to entertain the people of Melksham and surrounding areas, using the facilities that Melksham had to offer, (ie) The King Georges Park, Assembly Hall, Market Place and many other venues. The first thing they decided was that they needed a name that attracted attention, so the name of Melksham Entertainment Group or MEG for short came into being.
