Saturday February 5th 2005, here we go again, MEG brings some of the top names in the music business from the 60’s back to Melksham, one of the biggest names around the time and still big today is Brian Poole but now with his group Electrix, also on the bill top group Union Gap, supported by DJ Terry Vicars, after a slow start, tickets for this gig sold out with days to go, and having Terry there with his Disco proved the right way to go as it was a lousy night lashing down with rain, we had to open the doors early because of the rain, but no one minded the extra time as the Disco was banging out the music, and by the time the groups took to the stage the crowd were well into the atmosphere and were not to be disappointed, first up:

Union Gap, to say this band were exceptional is an understatement, and I know I have said it before that these bands have got better with time, but never has a truer word been said, you could feel the excitement, you could almost touch it, this band certainly rated as one of the best we have had, with the floor packed from start to finish they shone, singing theirs and others hits, “Lady Willpower” and “Young Girl”, and what an encore, they returned to the stage for another 20 minutes, and it was no surprise when both Gerry and John, two of the committee rushed to their dressing room after they finally left the stage to get them to sign a return contract, and I for one cant wait.

Next up the great Brian Poole & Electrix what can be said about Brian that hasn’t been said already, the voice may be going but take nothing away from this great performer, he certainly has the crowd eating out of his hands, and with a great bunch of boys backing him the building was alive and rocking.

A lot of people are unaware that Brian was first to have a hit with “Twist and Shout” reaching number 4 in the charts before the Beatles over took him, well let me tell you, “Do You Love Me” sounds just as good today as it did back then, and that other great, “Some one Some one” still turns me cold, what a way to end another great night, and with the Disco to keep the night going till we all drifted away, who could want for more.

Saturday 14th May 2005 - this proved to be another popular sell out as we brought back The Dreamers and The Cufflinks supported by The Midnight Dynamos.

First on stage were The Midnight Dynamos, an unknown group to most of us but this was soon to change as they were spectacular and had us all up dancing. They played a great range of music and deserved the round of applause they got at the end of their stint so we will be sure to have them back.

Next up were the very popular Cufflinks. This band needed no introduction as we have had them at the Assembly Hall before. They performed hit after hit and the crowd were up and didn’t sit back down. They finished off of there time on stage with When "Julie Comes Around" and their million selling hit from 1969, TRACY. To say that they were popular would be an understatement as the calls for an encore rung out throughout the hall.

Last up was The Dreamers, this very versatile cabaret band never fails to wow the audience. The Liverpool sense of humour is very forthright and earthy and no-one in the audience was safe from a wise crack from the lead singer as they sung all of the old Freddie And The Dreamers hits and really entertained the crowd, even coming down amongst them to do a 5-piece drum special on upturned galvanized dustbins. Once again a very entertaining stint from the lads.

The night proved to be a fantastic success with most of the audience clambering for the next one.

Saturday 21st October 05 - this night was a change from the usual for M.E.G as we strayed into the world of Amateur Boxing with a very special guest for the evening in the guise of the woman’s world champion, Jane Couch.

Along with Trowbridge Amateur Boxing Club we put on a fantastic corporate evening of a 3 Course Meal followed by 14 bouts of amateur boxing and the evening proved to be a virtual sell-out with tables being sold to many of the businesses of Melksham. The boxers taking part came from many parts of the country and the winners were presented with their trophies by the woman’s World Champion. Many of the bouts were sponsored by local business as were the trophies and the night proved to be a great success so we look forward to doing it again in the new year.

Saturday 29th October 05 - once again M.E.G went back to the tried and trusted 60’s spectacular show at The Assembly Hall. This time we bought together The Ivy League and The Nashville Teens supported by DJ Terry Vickers which proved to be more than a sell-out, as we had to turn people away from the door.

The evening started with Terry warming the crowd up for the first 3 quarters of an hour then onto the stage came the very popular Nashville Teens. This strong rock band really had the crowd on their feet dancing and they played a very varied amount of songs from Blues to some hard rock. After about 50 minutes the group left to stage to then return later in the evening.

Next up was the fantastic Ivy League after a 20 minute stint from DJ Terry. The Ivy League are very much in the same vain as The Dreamers, being a somewhat cabaret band, but this proved to be very popular with the audience who loved the drummers zany humour. Though they played with a lot of comedy routines there music was fantastic and nobody left the dance floor. This in itself proved a problem for the band because they were limited to what they could do from there usual routine and they left the stage to a stupendous applause. The DJ asked the audience would they like the band back which was met with a resounding YES!!!!!, so that takes care for booking sometime in the future.

Then to round off the evening, on came The Nashville Teens for another three quarters of an hour but I, myself, would have preferred the boys to have played straight through as, after the Ivy League finished their time on stage, some of the audience thought that that was the end of the evening and started to leave and to me this spoiled the effect but, all in all, it was another very successful evening and we look forward to the next one.
