Sat 27th January 07. Here we are again it may be a new year but the Venues the same, the eager faces the same, as yet again we bring you another 60s spectacular, on tonight’s bill the ever popular UNION GAP and the fabulous DAKOTAS supported by our very own DJ Terry Vickers, what a fantastic line up, with the doors supposed to be open at 7 o’clock we were ready for another great night of the sound of the Sixties. Starting the night and warming the venue up was our own Terry Vicars playing all the oldies but goldies, what better way to start an evening. UNION GAP. Then it was time to really light up the floor, as on to the stage returning to our venue came the very popular UNION GAP, say what you want some groups just get better the more you hear them, and these lads are just a group, with a new lighting set on stage the atmosphere was electric, the dance floor packed, what better testament to how the audience were feeling, it used to be that groups who had big hits were known only for those numbers, but these lads showed how versatile they were by knocking out number after number from a host of number 1s, even with a minor change to the line up the group proved just as popular as ever, but just as they seemed to have only started their time on stage was coming to an end, had over a hour gone by already, its true time does fly when you are enjoying yourself, but like all good groups the boys had saved the best to last as they struck up, “Lady Willpower” and finished off with the fabulous “Young Girl”, what can you say, but thanks again lads, and , “we will be seeing you again”. So ended the first act for this evening with the lights dimming, awaiting the set up for next band! During a short interruption while the stage was being reset thanks to our resident DJ the music played on, it is during these short breaks that our Raffle sellers get to work, and it is these little events that make these evenings so popular, and so I would like to say a big thanks to some of the crew of MEG who work so hard making the evening enjoyable, Pat Weymouth, Terri Welch, and their helpers, and Allan Weymouth who with his envelope game has raised many hundreds of pounds for different charities, and to the many winners of the envelope game who have donated their winnings to those same charities. But enough of that back to the entertainment. THE DAKOTAS. The lights dimmed as out on to the stage paying us a return visit the fabulous DAKOTAS, if any one ever thought that today’s groups were popular, they aint seen nothing yet, as the audience went into raptures of excitement to the music of the 60s played by this very professional group, they may be minus Billy J Kramer, but with this kind of powerful performance he is clearly not missed, like the line up before we were treated to a right foot tapping hip gyrating hour plus, as the dance floor strained to cope with the number off the people using it, pictures of the dancers can be found on the web site, but “ahh” just like before, the time had come for us to cheer off another fantastic performance as we bid farewell to the Dakotas to the strains of “Little Children” ringing in our ears, cheers lads see you on the flip side. Saturday 27th October 07 It approaching 7oclock inside the Assembly Hall Melksham, and outside a crowd is gathering all eager to get their seats at what is proving to be one of the most popular 60s specials MEG has put on, tonights events includes the very popular VANITY FARE and the FANTASTIC FORTUNES, supported by our resident DJ Terry Vickers. Then the lights dimmed again, the crowd were hushed again as the announcement was made for one of the best groups I believe MEG has brought to Melksham, It is with great sadness that I write these next few words for we have just learned of the sad death of the lead singer of The Fortunes Rod Allen who was one of the finest singers to make his mark in the pop world, and it is very apt that the groups last CD was called Legacy as that is what Rod has left us a legacy of some of the best music of the 60’s.
