Vic reflects back on the launch of MEG
Melksham Entertainment Group was formally started on the 20th June 2002. Some of the ideas coming out of that initial meeting were that the venues were not being used to there full potential, and taking the park as a bench mark, it was felt that the excitement generated by the Party in the Park idea was proof of this fact, this idea needed to be expanded upon by putting on other events, such as a Proms Night. This idea was thought to be a good idea, but where would we hold it, this brought about the idea of a Band Stand for the park, which if put in place could create a plethora of entertainment for the Park, other ideas and events were explored, better use of the Assembly Hall with different shows and Cabaret, top class comedians, Ball room dancing, the list seemed endless, the people of Melksham would support such events as could be seen by the ever expanding success of the Melksham Rock and Roll Club, give the people of Melksham good entertainment and they will pay to be entertained.
The people at that first meeting decided that they would take their ideas and put them into motion, check out a venue, check out a date, and check out top entertainment - the type Melksham was craving for. So on January 25th, 2003 MEG put on its first event - a 60s spectacular featuring groups from the 60s - Nashville Teens, Love Affair and The Four Pennies. These were groups many never got to see when they were first heard of. This event was a sell out before December 2002 was out giving proof that all that had been said at that first meeting was indeed correct.
Give the public good entertainment and they will support it. MEG has now put on several such events and go from strength to strength. We are now looking at putting on a more varied set of events, and we look forward to the future with great excitement.
