The Last Amazing MEG 60's Night!
Saturday 30th January 2010

Once again we strayed from our usual format of bring you groups from the 60s, and put on a tribute show/Dance, and though the numbers were down on what we are used to, most of those that were there said that they had a great evening, even those who had travelled down from Gloucester.

The night was billed as the No1 Show and it didn’t disappoint as every song or tune was a massive number 1 of the sixties, and even some from the 50s, It’s a job to remember all the different entertainers who visited the stage that night but I will try to give you a small sample, Doris Day, Cilla Black, Dusty Springfield, Sandie Shaw, Elvis, Cliff Richard, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, The Beatles, and the list goes on and on, so much so that our resident DJ Terry had a job to find any music to put on in the interval that wasn’t a repeat.
One thing that can be said about the No1 Show without question is it was great entertainment, the Girls gave some great impressions, my personal favourite was Doris Day and her big hit “
Once I Had A Secret Love” and if that don’t take you back then the costumes would have along with all the dancers strutting their stuff out there on the dance floor .
Somebody asked me if I thought we would ever have them back, “You bet we would”, and if your reading this and you ever get the chance to see the No1 Show take my advice and jump at the chance, the group is based out of Bristol,
well worth the money.

Saturday 31st October

Tonight was a bit of a concern, as the recession seemed to have an effect on our ticket sales for this unmissable night, M.E.G had booked 2 brilliant acts New Amen Corner and Colin Paul & The Persuaders plus our resident DJ Terry Vickers but to all those regulars who failed to make it, you missed another fantastic night of classic 60’s music.

After the initial warm-up session by Terry, first onto the stage was Colin Paul & The Persuaders, and everything we had heard about this act was true as Colin Paul gave a great rendition of a number of Elvis hits, “Suspicious Minds”, “The Wonder Of You” and too many for me to list, along with that other classic 60’s singer Billy Fury including “Halfway To Paradise”, “Like I’ve Never Been Gone” and “Once Upon A Dream” which got a storming welcome from the milling throng. Classic 60’s hits rang out from this brilliant entertainer even though he was suffering from a viral infection but once again after and hour and 20 minutes of pure entertainment it was time for this great group to leave the stage to a rapturous applause from the crowd.

After a short break for people to get some liquid refreshments and relax to classic 60’s music from Terry who kept the audience entertained while the stage was moved around for the next act.

With the lights dimmed, out onto the stage came what only be described as one of the best acts on the circuit at present came the brilliant New Amen Corner, we know this is the second time that we have had this group but there was such a clamour to get them back and as they started there stint we could understand why. With the dance floor absolutely packed for the whole of their stint there wasn’t an unhappy face in the room, dancing to classic 60’s tracks including “ (If Paradise Is) Half As Nice”, “Hello Susie”, “Bend Me, Shape Me” and “High In The Sky”, but as always all too soon, it was over and as of the act before, they left the stage to a standing ovation.

Once again, it was down to Terry to carry on his very popular session of ending the evening with classic 60’s music.

Thanks once again to all those who come along and to those who didn’t and are reading this, you missed one hell of a night, just make sure you don’t miss the next one in January 2010, this one is another 60’s showband, check on the up and coming section of the website for details.

Saturday 9th May 09.

Tonight is a departure from our normal 60s spectacular shows, tonight we are putting on a Tribute show in joint promotion with Melkshams Rock & Roll club this will be our first tribute show, we have no idea how this will be received by our normal following, but as the saying goes, if you are going to put on a show put on one of the best, that’s why we have gone for Chris Black’s C’MON EVERYBODY, with tributes to Eddie Cochran, Chuck Berry, Brenda Lee, Bill Haley, Duane Eddy, Connie Francis, Jerry Lee Lewis and Buddy Holly.
If we had any doubts, they were soon dispelled as the line waiting to get in was stretched back up to half way to Melksham House and no sooner and they were in, they were up and dancing to the warm up music supplied by our resident DJ Terry Vickers, but as 8.30 approached and the lights were dimmed it was time for the nights main event, and I for one was really looking forward to it as it was featuring two of my all time favourites in Brenda Lee and Connie Francis.
What a fantastic show, even the dancers were putting on a show Rocking and Rolling to great sounds, close your eyes and it was Eddie Cochran on stage with his Summer Time Blues, or the sound of Duane’s twanggy guitar, to Jerry Lee tinkering those Ivories (shame he was partly obscured by the stage curtain) and just to take you one step further into heaven the fantastic voices of Brenda and Connie, The two ladies taking on these roles have just joined Chris gang, but if tonights show is any thing to go by they will be with Chris for a long time, my only disappointment was Brenda didn’t sing one of my all time favourites ALL ALONE AM I, but that’s just me, but with great acts like Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry we had nothing to moan about and a really great evening was had by all as can be proved with the floor never been empty of dancers.

Now we all look forward to October 31st when we will have one of the best groups we’ve ever had back (but that’s just my opinion, you may think different) The New Amen Corner supported by Colin Paul & The Persuaders,
a favourite of many Melksham people,
supported by our resident DJ Terry Vickers.
This evening will prove to be another sell-out so snap up them tickets and we’ll hopefully see you on the 31st.

Saturday 31st January 2009.

Here we are again awaiting another evening of nostalgia, another 60’s spectacular, music to take us back to a by gone age a time when the music you bought came on a piece of Vinyl in the form of a 45 or an LP and could cost you 6 shillings and 9 pence an d you couldn’t wait to get it home and slap it on your record player and then there you were, it was you, you were that singer, or it was you twanging that guitar with the step over walk, well tonight is going to transport you right back.

Tonight we are bringing you what is reported to be the best Everly Bros tribute act around The Temple Brothers, also we are bringing back by very popular demand the fabulous Ivy League, and as always backed up by our resident DJ Terry Vickers.
After being warmed up as usual by Terry first out onto the stage was the TEMPLE BROTHERS and all we had been told about them was no exaggeration, what a fantastic sound and the look never disappointed either, twin guitars turning out great numbers such as Bye Bye Love, Love Hurts, Bird Dog, The Price of Love, Claudette, Walk Right Back and who can forget the Haunting Ebony Eyes, the hits went on and on and so did the applause, but just as always the boys came to the end of their slot, but not before a massive call for an encore which ended with tumultuous applause.

Once again it was time to hand Raines over to Terry to keep the evening moving
and every body happy with his array of 60’s hits all be it on a more modern Disc and a much more modern set up.

Then once again the lights were dimmed and a hush descended around the hall, it was time for the Fabulous IVY LEAGUE and the most manic drummer I have ever seen, but there was no mistaking that special sound, with songs like Tossing and Turning, That’s why Im Crying, the floor was bound to be crowded, and so it stayed even when we were treated to a solo of nearly every television advert tune ever heard turned into a song, this had everyone in stitches, but like the Temple Bros before them, time just slipped away and before we knew it they were belting out their biggest hit, Funny How Love Can Be, and then they were gone, but not before the clamour of encore could be heard and fully complied with, and once again it was down to Terry to satisfy the crowds insatiable need for more and more sounds of the 60’s.

I would like to say a big thanks to a couple of guy’s who without their input these nights would not be the same, they are our sound engineer Roger and our lighting technician Paul, between them they help put on a fantastic night, if you come along you may never notice them sat quietly bevering away at the side of the hall, but if you do notice them, just a quite word of thanks wouldn’t go amiss.

It just leaves me to say thanks if you came along, if you never, you will never know what you missed, poor you, but nows your chance to put that right, book your ticket for our next event on the 9th May 09 a great show C’mon Everybody with tributes to Brenda Lee, Connie Frances, Duane Eddie, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly and Eddie Cochrane. Tickets only £12 on sale now.
